In the last week of February, the potato supply on the Russian market increased significantly, as farmers who had previously refrained from sales in anticipation of price increases began to sell off the available volumes of potatoes. Manufacturers were forced to make such a decision in connection with a decrease in demand and a deterioration in product quality, analysts at the APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits project said.
Potato sales in Russia have fallen markedly over the past few days. Manufacturers of these products report an almost complete lack of demand. At the same time, according to farmers, price reduction does not save the situation. Today, farmers are ready to ship high-quality potatoes at a price of 7-13 rubles / kg ($ 0,11-0,20 / kg), which is on average 7% cheaper than a week earlier, but the interest of buyers remains extremely low.
It is worth noting that at the moment, prices for potatoes in Russia are on average 12% cheaper than at the end of February 2019. At the same time, producers admit that potato stocks on farms are still quite large. Some farmers managed to sell off less than half of the storage volumes.
