Scientists from the North Caucasus Federal University (NCFU) have developed a new technology for determining the condition of the soil and the presence of moisture in it. They call efficiency and mobility the main advantages of the created technique.
The essence of the technology is to remotely determine the physical and chemical parameters of natural earth surfaces. It allows you to “see through” the soil to the depth of the plant root system, that is, about 50 cm. However, the object of measurement can be not only agricultural land.
Head of the Department of Infocommunications of NCFU, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Gennady Linets said that the new technique has already been tested in the local agricultural holding “Steppe”. And during tests on the fields of the enterprise, it showed fairly accurate results.
A group of researchers from the School of Advanced Interdisciplinary Research, which NCFU created as part of the Priority 2030 program, worked on the technology. Based on the results of their work, a patent was obtained both for the principle of the technology and for the measuring device.
Now in the Stavropol Territory the possibility of commercializing and introducing a new measuring complex to the market is being considered. According to its creators, this will happen in the coming year. NCFU scientists also plan to create technology for determining other parameters in the soil: salt levels and vegetation indices.
