Employees of the Udmurt Federal Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences together with colleagues from the Federal Agrarian Research Center of the North-East. N.V. Rudnitsky (FANC of the North-East) developed a new potato variety Shudbur (translated from the Udmurt language - “happiness”).
“Our scientists have developed a new variety based on ten years of research carried out jointly with the North-East Federal Research Center. Competitive variety testing showed that the yield of the Shudbur variety was 38,1 t/ha, which is 8,1 t/ha higher than the yield of the standard variety Udacha, - said Alexei Semenikhin, head of the Administration of the UdmFIC of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to Andrey Lednev, head of the Research Institute of Agriculture of the Ural Federal Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the new variety has a high resistance to late blight, passed the state test for resistance to the causative agent of cancer and to the golden potato nematode.
“A package of documents has been prepared for this variety, an application has been sent to the State Commission of the Russian Federation for Testing and Protection of Breeding Achievements for its approval for use,” Andrey Lednev concluded.
