Prices for white cabbage in the Russian market continue to grow due to a reduction in its volumes in farms, as well as in conditions of high interest in purchasing from wholesale companies and retail chains, project analysts report Eastfruit.
Some producers are selling vegetables in a restrained mode, thereby provoking a more intensive price increase in this segment. As a rule, these are the owners of specialized vegetable stores, who plan to sell the main volume of products at a later date, and therefore they are now voicing selling prices at a fairly high level.
Today selling prices for white cabbage range from 44-58 rubles/kg ($0,56-0,73/kg), which is on average 10% more expensive than a week earlier.
The main reason for this situation was the reduction in the supply of these products in the central zone of the Russian Federation, where most farms have completed the sale. In addition, due to severe frosts, the delivery of vegetables from Dagestan was complicated, which caused a shortage in some regions last week, which, in turn, also “warmed up” prices in this segment.
At the moment, the price of white cabbage in Russia is already significantly higher than last year's level. So, today Russian manufacturers manage to ship these products on average 4,6 times more expensive than at the end of January 2021. Most market participants do not rule out the possibility of a further increase in the cost of this product, and, in their opinion, the rate of price growth will accelerate as the stocks of white cabbage in local farms decrease.
