Turkmenistan closed its borders with Afghanistan, Iran and Uzbekistan. After that, potatoes imported from Iran disappeared from store shelves. It is reported by Azatlyk.
Over the past few days, Iranian potatoes managed to rise in price three times. Prior to reports of the closure of the border with Iran, a kilogram of potato was sold in the markets of Ashgabat for 5-6 manats (about $ 1,5 at the rate of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan). A day after the border closes - 18 manat ($ 5) per kilogram. A day later, imported potatoes disappeared from sale in both state and private stores. Only Turkmen potatoes remained on the shelves, but its price also increased - up to 15 manat ($ 4) per kilogram.
According to Azatlyk, the state withdraws from sale products imported from Iran. In the Balkan province (region) in the west of the country, the sanitary and epidemiological station and the bodies for surveillance of infectious diseases confiscated chicken, potatoes, onions, fruits and sweets from the point of sale. All this was burned at the landfill.
